Linda Chavez
* What a performance! Linda Chavez parades all of the people she “helps” at her Tuesday press conference [withdrawing as nominee for secretary of Labor] and attacks the “politics of destruction.” Give me a break. Chavez and her Republican cronies should know a lot about destructive politics. They’ve been on a roll for the last eight years attacking President Clinton.
Chavez just might steal an Oscar after this heart-wrenching act.

Re “New Questions Trouble Bush Cabinet Picks,” Jan. 8: Chavez did not “hire” an illegal alien, she “helped” someone who was down on her luck. She did not have “live-in” domestic help, rather she simply let the woman live in her house. And Chavez certainly did not “pay” the woman for doing chores around the house, she simply gave the woman some “spending money” to help her through troubled times. President Clinton couldn’t have said it better.

Who can blame Chavez for using the assistance of illegals to support her lifestyle? Who among us has not benefited from the labor of undocumented workers? Let’s acknowledge and support those who support us and their families.
