Bombing, Clashes Claim 15 in Kashmir

A bus bombing in Indian-controlled Kashmir killed six people, and fierce fighting elsewhere in the state claimed nine lives. The bus attack took place about 25 miles north of Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir state, where Islamic militants have been waging a war of independence since 1989. At least 40 people were injured. Meanwhile, fighting between guerrillas and security forces at Mishriwala, on the outskirts of Jammu--the winter capital--left six militants dead and four security troops injured. In addition, one policeman and two civilians were killed when militants hurled a grenade at a group of soldiers in Srinagar, police said. Twenty civilians were injured.
