It is with great admiration that we will remember the civil rights leader Bert Corona (obituary, Jan. 17). His work on behalf of Mexican Americans has helped shape the society that we live in today. He was a hero in the battle for civil rights and was committed to the advancement of Chicanos in California.

Corona’s contributions are unparalleled. From organizing immigrant workers; to creating Latino organizations; to helping elect the first Chicano city councilman, Edward Roybal; to helping Chicano youth take pride in their heritage--Corona was a true leader. His leadership can serve as a guide for today’s Chicanos so that we can continue to create more opportunities for future generations.
