Global Health Seeks Bankruptcy Protection

Share

Dietary and nutritional health supplement maker Global Health Sciences Inc. filed for protection from creditors in U.S. Bankruptcy Court and put itself up for sale. Global, based in Orange, had been one of the largest suppliers to Herbalife International Inc., with sales to the Los Angeles company constituting more than half its business. But that business dwindled after the death last May of Herbalife founder Mark Hughes. Global defaulted on $258 million of debt in November. In a news release, the company said it intends to sell its business as a going concern, using a competitive bidding process. It asked potential buyers to contact its financial advisor, Murphy Noell Capital in Westlake Village. There was no immediate word on layoffs. Global had employed 1,300 permanent and temporary workers at plants in Orange and Anaheim when it missed a $12.4-million payment to its bondholders on Nov. 1.
