Milosevic Loses Case Right Away
A suitcase that former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic’s defense team was bringing from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was lost Monday on the flight to Amsterdam, one of the lawyers said.
The missing suitcase contains materials the 59-year-old Milosevic needs for his arraignment today before the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Zdenko Tomanovic said. The lawyer would not say more about it.
Tomanovic and another lawyer, Dragan Krgovic, arrived in The Hague on Monday. Tomanovic told a news conference there that since Milosevic doesn’t recognize the U.N. court, the former strongman “is not going to call any lawyers to appear before the tribunal” at his first hearing and that Milosevic might even conduct his own defense at trial.
