The American pilot and three Japanese passengers aboard a light plane that disappeared en route from Japan to Alaska were found alive in a life raft off Russia’s Pacific coast, a government official said.
A spokesman for the Emergencies Ministry in Moscow said the four were found in the Sea of Okhotsk by a passing ship and were taken on board.
Russian and Japanese rescue teams conducted an intense search of the area after the single-engine Pilatus PC-12 vanished about 60 miles east of Russia’s Sakhalin island. The four were found 15 hours later.
