Limitations on Big-Box Stores

Share

As a longtime supplier to Wal-Mart stores, I would like to voice my opposition to the Oxnard City Council considering the adoption of an ordinance to limit grocery sales at big-box retail stores.

We at Scosche Industries, which employs 100 locally, feel that the consideration of such an ordinance would have a significantly negative effect on businesses in California such as ours. A grocery restriction ordinance would limit the available marketplace for California-grown products. California consumers have the right to choose where they purchase goods and services and deserve the support of California companies to preserve the spirit of competition in the free market.

Considering an ordinance such as this to limit free trade within big box retail stores causes consumers who can least afford groceries to suffer most of all. Scosche Industries hereby recommends that the Oxnard City Council not consider adopting limitations on commerce through big-box retail stores.
