Capital Education

In response to the letter by Karen Ragan regarding her Washington, D.C., visits being disrupted by schoolchildren (“Capital Vacation Ruined by Students,” July 1): My recent experience was just the opposite. On May 5, I accompanied the fourth-grade classes from Trabuco Mesa Elementary School in Rancho Santa Margarita to Sacramento to visit the capital area and then the Gold Country. Most of the groups I observed were well behaved and courteous.

I encourage these trips and the learning that takes place through them. I believe that we need children educated in history and government. I don’t want to one day see my daughter on one of Jay Leno’s Jaywalking episodes.
