Associated Press

Toshiba Corp. is scheduled today to announce plans for a hand-held computer that uses Microsoft Corp.’s PocketPC technology, part of Toshiba’s effort to gain market share over rival Palm Inc.

The hand-held Toshiba computers will be available in the United States later this year. The companies haven’t said what they will charge for the product or named a specific U.S. release date.

Palm technology accounts for the majority of hand-held computers.

Microsoft has launched a broad campaign to break into that market with its PocketPC technology.
