Ruling Party Withdraws TV Ad Featuring Hitler
After fierce criticism from Jewish groups, Taiwan’s ruling party said it will halt a TV ad aimed at drumming up youth involvement that included an image of Adolf Hitler.
The Democratic Progressive Party said it will pull the ad “out of respect for the Holocaust victims.”
The ad, designed to encourage young people to be bold and share their ideas with the party, shows scenes of Hitler along with other famous orators, including John F. Kennedy and Fidel Castro.
But it was quickly denounced by Taiwan’s small Jewish community. Menashe Zipori, head of the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan, called the ad “a monstrosity.”
