Two men accused of killing a Northridge jewelry store owner in a botched robbery attempt pleaded not guilty Wednesday in San Fernando Superior Court.

In December, Sunrise Jewelry owner Karo Zeytounyan was shot several times in the chest and face with a handgun. Police found rings and necklaces scattered on the floor around his body.

Gaik Papazyan and Artem Samsonyan are accused of killing the jeweler while trying to rob the shop on Tampa Avenue.

Moments after the shooting, witnesses said they saw two or three well-dressed men running from the store in the Walnut Grove Shopping Center.

With the help of an onlooker, police arrested Papazyan. Samsonyan was taken into custody later.

The case will continue Sept. 9.
