Wine of the Week

Share

On the label of this red from Spain’s Ribera del Duero region, two cherubs blow their trumpets over the Retuerta Abbey where wines have been made since 1146. Just heaven’s little way of announcing a good buy. The 1999 vintage has loads of bright, clean fruit and tastes like a heady mix of cassis, dark plums and blackberries. With its bold structure and sturdy tannins, this is a wine for strongly flavored foods--charred red and yellow peppers, grilled sausages, ribs, and, yep, burgers.
