Typhoon-Triggered Slides Kill at Least 14

Typhoon Toraji swept into Taiwan today, triggering landslides that killed at least 14 people, shut down the capital and threatened the island’s main high-tech industrial park--home to many of the world’s biggest computer chip makers.
Later, the typhoon lost strength and was downgraded to a tropical storm as it whirled toward northern Taiwan along a path forecasters predicted would lead to southern China.
