Tropical Storm Allison Batters Southern U.S.
Heavy rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison pounded Louisiana and Texas, killing at least one person, flooding much of the region and causing havoc on the roads.
The Houston area, in southeast Texas, got up to 11 inches of rain in an early morning downpour, but torrential rains fell all day in southern Louisiana. Officials said Livingston Parish, just east of Baton Rouge, had gotten 19 inches in the last two days and more was on the way.
A 70-year-old man was killed in Zachary, La., when a tornado knocked a tree onto his truck.
