Powerwave’s Sales Will Be Less Than Expected

Powerwave Technologies Inc. said fiscal second-quarter revenue will be as much as 17% less than expected. Sales in the quarter ending July 1 will be $70 million to $80 million, the maker of components for wireless telephone networks said. Powerwave had expected revenue to increase 10% to 15% from the first quarter, to $80.3 million to $84 million.

The Santa Ana-based company expects its loss to narrow from the first quarter’s $9.5 million, Chief Financial Officer Kevin Michaels said. He declined to be more specific.

In the year-earlier second quarter, Powerwave had net income of $11.4 million on revenue of $110.5 million. Shares of Powerwave closed up 10 cents at $12.10 on Nasdaq.
