Test Slated for AOL’s High-Speed Services

AOL Time Warner Inc., the largest Internet and media company, will run a six-month test of America Online’s high-speed Web services over Cox Communications Inc.’s cable system.

The companies released a statement saying they may negotiate an agreement that would allow America Online to sell high-speed online access using Cox’s lines.

America Online will join EarthLink Inc., the third-largest U.S. Internet service, in the Cox trial.

America Online’s test will start in the third quarter. It will be conducted over Cox’s cable system in El Dorado, Ark.

America Online has more than 29 million subscribers.
