General Semiconductor Warns of Falling Sales

General Semiconductor Inc., a takeover target of Vishay Intertechnology Inc., said demand for its power management components continues to be weak and second-quarter sales will be lower than in the first.

Sales are expected to fall as much as 17% this quarter, from $102 million in its first quarter, spokesman Jonas Leddington said. The Melville, N.Y.-based company had forecast sales to be unchanged to slightly lower.

Profit is expected to be 1 cent to 3 cents a share. General Semiconductor reported net income of $12.09 million, or 28 cents, on sales of $128.3 million a year earlier.

General Semiconductor shares fell 43 cents to close at $9.99 on the NYSE.
