Peace’s Support

While I have been very grateful to The Times for its continued editorial support of the mental health legislation I have carried over the past 41/2 years, I must take exception to the editorial of June 8 (“Suspect Priorities”), which called Sen. Steve Peace myopic on the funding of mental health programs.

I want to set the record straight. Peace has always been supportive of my advocacy for the mentally ill and of my legislative efforts. Over the past 41/2 years that I have been a member of the Legislature, he has offered advice and assistance to me on any number of issues. To claim he’d deliberately choose not to assist those who are mentally ill, either through the Steinberg legislation or mine, is a great disservice to him and to the mentally ill whom we are all trying to help.
