Group Chides Yahoo for Allowing Porn

Web portal Yahoo Inc. came under renewed attack for allowing child pornography and other obscene materials to be posted within its Yahoo Clubs section.
The accusations were made by the American Family Assn., a conservative religious group based in Tupelo, Miss.
Yahoo Clubs, which cover thousands of topics, are ad hoc, user-maintained pages that promote dialogue among like-minded participants.
Yahoo doesn’t preview material before allowing it to be posted. But a spokeswoman said Yahoo normally removes offending sites within one day of being notified.
“Any time that we are made aware of content that falls into the category of things that are unlawful or obscene, we remove them,” spokeswoman Nicki Dugan said.
The American Family Assn. asked Atty. Gen. John Ashcroft to investigate the matter.
