From Times Wire Reports
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the nation’s largest rebel group, said it will free more than 250 soldiers and police next week in a peace gesture.
The surprise decision would more than double the number of prisoners freed by the rebels, known as the FARC, under a June 2 agreement with the government. In all, at least 305 men will be freed, the biggest prisoner release in Colombia’s decades-long war. Some of the men have been held for three years.
The men will be freed June 28, rebel spokesman Raul Reyes said.
