Fair Trade Act for Films?
Sorina Diaconescu failed to mention one important matter in her story about China’s increased film exports to the United States (“Riding the ‘Tiger,’ ” June 9). I have visited China three times in as many years and saw precious few American-made movies in their theaters in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
Our federal and California trade promoters should insist that U.S. imports of Chinese films must be based on reciprocal importation of our films by the Chinese. I am not in the movie business, but our city depends so much on the success of one of our primary industries, therefore, I feel strongly about this subject.
