Global Warming’s Basis

Share

Re “How Dangerous Is Global Warming?” Opinion, June 17: Congratulations for publishing some suggestions of facts that might convince some that the threat of global warming is a little overrated. No doubt, a new form of life will find some useful purpose for all the detritus we leave behind after the planet has disengorged itself of the horrible people problem.

Consider all the life a mile or so below the ocean surface. That may actually be the real life that can be properly supported by this formerly beautiful planet.

I object to Michael Ramirez’s June 20 editorial cartoon showing a doctor labeled “EU” telling Uncle Sam, “He has a slight temperature. We don’t know why. So we are going to have to remove your spleen.” This is a gross mischaracterization of the global warming issue. The National Academy of Sciences has determined that global warming is real and that greenhouse gases released by human activity are a significant contributor. As the largest producer of greenhouse gases per capita, there is much that we can and should do to help alleviate this problem.
