From Times Wire Reports

The Philippine government and a Muslim separatist group signed a peace agreement calling a cease-fire in a 32-year insurgency and for talks over lands claimed by Muslims.

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front signed the agreement after talks in Tripoli sponsored by Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi.

The 15,000-strong rebel group seeks an Islamic state on the resource-rich southern island of Mindanao. It is not linked to another Islamic group, Abu Sayyaf, which is holding dozens of hostages elsewhere in the southern region.
