Has NAFTA Been Good or Bad for Participants?

Share

How can we enter into a free trade agreement for all countries in North and South America when we don’t really know the results from NAFTA, the free trade agreement between the U.S., Canada and Mexico?

As an avid follower of the news, I have been unable to understand exactly what NAFTA has brought us or the other two countries involved. I have [read conflicting information] that NAFTA has created U.S. jobs and that it has cost jobs in the U.S. I have never seen any kind of summary of factories that have left the U.S., and if they have, what and how they are doing. Similarly, I have read that foods imported now may be unhealthy, and I have read that they are safe. And we have all read or heard about Mexican trucks that may not meet U.S. safety standards but are free to roam U.S. roads.

Whether by Congress, a university, a credited research organization or any reasonable facsimile, the public should know the actual results of NAFTA. Has it been good or bad for the U.S., Mexico, and Canada?
