Drowning Tragedy Waiting to Happen

Re “Drowned Children’s Dad Says Wife Was Depressed,” June 22: Five children in seven years, very fragile emotional and mental health, no outside help and apparently trying to home-school as well. This was a tragedy just waiting to happen. Why didn’t Andrea Yates’ medical and spiritual advisors do something to prevent the loss of five precious little lives--not counting the just-as-precious lives of their parents?

A man’s wife is experiencing severe depression after being pregnant four times in a period of six years. Why, then, would a loving husband not do what was necessary to avoid a fifth pregnancy, barely a year later? I don’t mean to be harsh, but something was terribly wrong with this picture long before the killings.
