Border Crossings: Help Mexico Create Jobs

Share

Re “Border Pact to Target Safety,” June 23: While recommendations were listed to help illegal aliens crossing the border, one was missing. That would be for Mexico to get its own house in order and care for its citizens so they do not have to flee their homeland. I honestly grieve for the Mexican nationals who must pick up and leave family, friends and hometown on a risky trek north, simply because their leaders lack the compassion or common sense to create an environment for prosperity.

The illegal aliens and Mexico have to understand America’s right to a secure border. Many of my neighbors migrated to the U.S. legally, and the thought of taking a shortcut never crossed their minds. If the U.S. can help Mexico create jobs for its people, then I am all for that. Hopefully, Mexico would meet us halfway here. Just don’t dump people on our neighborhoods and proclaim that is the best that can be done.

If the U.S. and Mexico are going to make illegal crossings into the U.S. easier, why not open all the borders? Then when we run out of electricity and all of the other natural resources, who’s to blame?

We need to think this over, or our children and their families’ children will have nothing. We won’t be able to keep our hospitals open. Then what?
