No Sales Tax Increase

Share

I don’t always agree with the Republicans, but I do this time, regarding making the sales tax cut permanent (“Let the Sales Tax Yo-Yo,” editorial, June 26). All the whining about the state’s budget surplus being gone because of the economic slowdown is hogwash. In the last two years, the state ballooned the budget from $81 billion to $99 billion. The new budget is $101 billion. The $600 million lost [in the first six months] by not raising the sales tax back up a quarter-percent is a drop in the bucket.
