Energy Conservation

Share

* Many articles have been written explaining and analyzing the economical, political and technological aspects of the current energy crisis. However, I rarely hear mention of the C-word, conservation. Have affluence and easy living anesthetized the American people? There is a great deal of waste in every area of modern life that could be cut if anybody really cared.

Every day I see my neighbor from down the street drive his SUV up to his mailbox. Others have “landscape lighting” all over their lawns that would rival the Las Vegas Strip. What about the millions of hours dedicated to Internet surfing? I hate to be a voice in the wilderness, but Americans need to be reminded that the resources of this country are not inexhaustible. As Teddy Roosevelt once said, the natural wealth of the country does not reproduce itself.
