Woman Settles Suit Over Parade Mishap

A woman who suffered a fractured skull after a balloon slammed into a nearby lamppost during the 1997 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has settled a lawsuit against the department store and the city, her attorney said.
Kathleen Caronna sought $95 million in compensatory damages from Macy’s, New York City and the lamppost maker. She was also seeking $300 million in punitive damages from Macy’s. The amount of her settlement was not disclosed.
