‘Holy’ War

* Your March 13 article, “ ‘Purified’ in the Name of Allah,” makes for sad, depressing reading. For this is no jihad, but a deformation of the true spirit of tolerance of Islam, which has proclaimed that “there is no compulsion” in religion and that “people of the book” (Jews and Christians) should be treated with respect. Unfortunately, when demagogic extremism takes over, it distorts the message of any religion.
