What Were You Thinking?

Running the two-page Versace ad in the magazine’s spring fashion issue (Feb. 25) was a terrible decision. The ad is hideous, irresponsible and, frankly, comes off as dated. The majority of high-end designers have discarded the posturing of “heroin chic” advertising. I’ve talked to several people and, so far, the ad has managed to offend almost all of them. What were you thinking?

I was shocked and disgusted. Shame on you for accepting the Versace advertisement.

This is not the sort of ad one would expect to see in a Sunday magazine that is part of a newspaper the whole family enjoys. What was the ad trying to sell and to whom? An ad displaying a couple of beautiful Versace outfits on pretty models would have a more positive effect on readers than this silly, borderline offensive one.
