Ramirez on Oscars

Share

As usual, Michael Ramirez’s cartoon depicting a modified Oscar statuette is well-drawn and clever (Commentary, March 25). However, I wonder if it occurred to Ramirez that, since his Oscar sports an automatic weapon, a tattoo of the word “ME” with a heart around it, a waistband full of money and a cigarette hanging from his lips, it could better stand in as a symbol of the Republican Party. Or is it that when guns, selfishness, greed and cigarettes are endorsed by Republicans, they’re “values,” but when promulgated by Hollywood they’re vices?

And the Academy Award goes to . . . Michael Ramirez, for outstanding portrayal of “Oscar”!
