Wine of the Week
It’s not often these days that you can drink a bona fide Burgundy for less than $20. This one sneaks under the line because it’s only a Bourgogne rouge, but 1999 was such a good vintage, even that basic appellation can show some very pretty wines.
This bottling stands out for its clean ripe fruit and taste of terroir. It’s a good entry-level wine for anyone curious about how Pinot Noir from Burgundy compares with California Pinot Noir.
It would be terrific with bistro food such as salame, rillettes, pate or terrine. It would go down just as easily with a beautiful roast chicken, too, or a classic steak frites.
