An empty passenger train traveling on the wrong track crashed into a commuter train Tuesday, killing at least eight people. It was the worst rail accident in Belgium in more than a quarter of a century.

The dead included five passengers, both drivers and another rail official. Nine people were injured.

Rail officials said the accident occurred in this village about 15 miles east of Brussels.
