U.S. Citizenship Is Sought for Scholar
From Times Wire Reports
Members of Congress hope to hasten the release of a U.S.-based scholar accused of spying in China by granting the woman American citizenship.
Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) and other lawmakers plan to introduce legislation next week that would grant citizenship to Gao Zhan, a political scientist at American University in Washington.
Gao is a permanent U.S. resident. She was detained Feb. 11 at the Beijing airport as she and her family were ending a visit.
