Media Need to Get Hit Over Head About Boxing
I love watching boxing. All of us boxing fans usually know when a fighter should retire long before he does. Sugar Ray, Foreman and the like have all had successful comebacks long after we thought they were done. Because they have not suffered any permanent injuries, their comebacks were considered successful.
We all know what happened to Ali, but it appears the state boxing commissions didn’t. So now Greg Page, a champion from long ago, lies in a coma. Where is the outrage? There is none. It is up to publications like the L.A. Times to report on these situations with more than a note on the last page of the sports section. Otherwise it will be the heroes of today lying in comas 10 years from now.
