Vietnam Curriculum

Share

* I was heartened to read that efforts are being made in the schools to teach the young people about the Vietnam War from a variety of perspectives (April 26). However, I was saddened that an important perspective was apparently being left out: that of the Vietnamese. You say, “To help educators tell the tale of Vietnam, a veterans foundation has produced a curriculum that examines the war through the eyes of soldiers, statesmen, draft resisters and other players from the tumultuous era.”

Where is the Vietnamese perspective in this curriculum? Where are their testimonials? While well meaning, the curriculum seems to categorically exclude their viewpoint--the Vietnamese who suffered greatly and whose homeland was brutally ravaged in that tragic period.
