Bear Killed After Camper Is Mauled
From Times wire services
Officials captured and killed a 300-pound black bear that they believe mauled a camper in the Santa Rita Mountains near Tucson.
Cody Fickett, 23, suffered 11 puncture wounds in his neck and abrasions on a shoulder in the attack early Sunday. He was in fair condition at Tucson Medical Center.
Fickett and his 25-year-old brother, Jason, were asleep when the bear entered their campsite. Jason awoke to screams and saw a bear attacking Cody. He drove it off by ramming it with his body and yelling. Jason wasn’t hurt.
