Schrieber Wins Sea View Title

Matt Schrieber of Aliso Niguel shot a final-round five-under-par 67 Tuesday at Talega, overcoming a four-shot deficit to win the Sea View League individual title by one stroke over teammate Joseph Kim.

Schrieber, who shot 72 in the opening round, had seven birdies and an eagle in his two-round total of 139. Kim, who shot 68-72, had nine birdies and an eagle in the two rounds.

John Clarke of Woodbridge shot 147 to finish third. Billy Moon of Woodbridge, Daniel Kush of Newport Harbor and Mike Finney of Irvine each shot 149 and earned berths in the Southern Section individual regional tournament.

In the Century League finals:

McGlasson wins--El Modena junior Ed McGlasson shot a pair of two-under-par 70s to win the league title by 12 shots at the SCGA Members’ Course in Murrieta.

In the Golden West League finals:

Kim wins--Jay Kim shot a seven-over 79 for Tustin at Tustin Ranch.

In the Pacific Coast League finals:

Kim wins--University’s Nick Kim held on for a one-shot victory, shoot a four-over 76 on the second day and finishing with a three-over 146 at San Clemente GC.

In Sunset League matches:

Edison 200, No. 8 Esperanza 210--Edison junior Daniel Lee shot a one-over 36 to medal at Yorba Linda and help the Chargers (9-8, 6-4) to a share of the Sunset League title.

Esperanza is 11-5, 5-5.

No. 7 Huntington Beach 191, Los Alamitos 196--Freshman Joey Benedetti shot a one-under-par 34 at SeaCliff, leading the Oilers (14-4, 6-4) to a share of the league title, their fourth in a row. Los Alamitos is 4-6 in league.

Marina 190, Fountain Valley 194--Three players shared medalist honors at one-over 37, Collis Huntington and Daniel Chin of third-place Marina and Mike McConnaughey of Fountain Valley, at Mile Square Park.

In Century League baseball:

Villa Park 2, Santa Ana Valley 1--The Spartans (16-6, 9-2) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to avoid the upset. Santa Ana Valley’s Eric Saldana (1-7) shut out Villa Park for six innings, before the Spartans loaded the bases in the seventh. Chris Bragg tied the score with a single and Kirk McConchie’s squeeze scored Erik Averill with the winning run.

Dan Reid (7-1) went the distance, striking out nine, for Villa Park.

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 13, Corona del Mar 8--Adam Horner went four for four with three runs scored and three RBIs for University, which erased an early deficit by scoring nine runs in the first two innings.

The Trojans (14-8-1, 8-3-1) now trail the first-place Sea Kings (15-7, 10-2) by 1 1/2 games.

In Serra League boys’ volleyball:

No. 4 Santa Margarita 3, Servite 1--Blake Robinson had 21 kills, Ryan Perry 13, and Jack Pichard added four aces for the host Eagles (23-7, 6-0), who won, 15-5, 12-15, 15-5, 15-10. Servite is 15-12, 0-5.
