Nursing Homes

Share

* Daniel Pine’s essay on nursing homes (Voices, April 28) was an insult to the thousands of families who must place their loved ones in a nursing home due to circumstances beyond their ability to cope. I have visited several facilities in my area. My mother was in a convalescent hospital when she broke her hip. They are far from being concentration camps. The residents are given 24-hour care by concerned professionals. There are daily activities, religious services and entertainment. The rooms are clean. The food is nourishing.

Not everyone with an ailing parent is a single male working at home. Each family must face this decision with love, compassion and reason.
