A local businesswoman plans to give the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History $35 million to establish a “hall of achievement.”

The founder of a financial services company, Catherine Reynolds, proposed that her donation fund a permanent exhibit on notable figures in science, sports, public service and the arts, the Washington Post reported.

Reynolds said she would like to include scientist Jonas Salk, slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., former NBA basketball star Michael Jordan and former Olympic skater Dorothy Hamill.

The Smithsonian has received a record $300 million from private sources in the last three years, the Post said.
