Bulletproof Miss Israel Finishes as a Finalist

Despite a bulletproof vest-and-gown, Israel’s Ilanit Levy was among those defeated in the Miss Universe contest by Denise Quinones August of Puerto Rico.
Quinones won the 50th Miss Universe pageant in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In second place was Miss Greece, 22-year-old Evelina Papantoniou, and in third was Miss USA, 24-year-old Kandace Krueger.
Levy, whose outfit was designed to reflect the Israeli response to turmoil in the Middle East, was among 10 finalists but was eliminated after the swimsuit contest.
