Redford Says No to Norton’s Invitation

The star of “Three Days of the Condor” won’t spend a single day releasing a condor at Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton’s invitation.
Robert Redford wrote back to Norton, telling her he found it “mystifying” that she would assert they have anything in common when it comes to the environment.
“Sadly, since assuming the Interior secretary post, you have compiled an abysmal record of capitulating to big businesses at the expense of the nation’s public health, public lands and wildlife,” Redford wrote.
She had written him a week earlier inviting him to join her the next time a formerly endangered California condor is released publicly. She noted that Redford once narrated a film about the condor recovery effort and had starred in the political thriller “Condor.”
