Christopher Gorman; Award-Winning Casting Director

Christopher Gorman, 45, casting director who won his profession’s Artios Award in 1988, died Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of AIDS.

Born in New York City, Gorman worked as a CBS apprentice in scenic design before attending the Drama Division of Purchase College. After graduation, he won a contract at Warner Bros. where he helped cast such films as Clint Eastwood’s “Heartbreak Ridge” and “Pale Rider.”

He earned casting’s top award for his work on the mini-series “Nutcracker: Money, Madness, Murder” starring Lee Remick. Gorman also was nominated for a second Artios for his casting of “The Betty Ford Story” starring Gena Rowlands.

Returning to CBS, Gorman helped bring plays to television, and most recently was vice president for drama series development, overseeing the launch of such series as “Judging Amy” and “Family Law.”
