‘Son of Star Wars’

Aren’t the Republicans the ones who often proclaim that government “ought to be run more like business”? Then why are they always trying to sell us a bill of goods? That is certainly the case with the “Son of Star Wars” program (May 23), a product that almost nobody wants, will gut the national budget and won’t work when it is deployed. Sounds like the planned obsolescence program of the auto industry 20 years ago.

Give us $50 billion in new schools and teachers, and we can change society. Give us $300 billion worth of “Stars Wars,” and all we’ll be able to do is complain about another hunk of overpriced junk. The problem is, there won’t be a refund coming, and we still won’t have the new schools and teachers.
