Bilingual Services, Support for Those Coping With Alzheimer’s
One of the best ways to help non-English-speaking families cope with the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease is to provide services in their native languages that also take into account their unique cultural customs.
In the first statewide program to provide special help to Asian and Pacific Islander communities, the Alzheimer’s Assn. of Los Angeles and its Bay Area counterpart are collaborating with local agencies on a new outreach program. They’re offering bilingual social services for patients, as well as support groups and respite care for their families.
In Los Angeles, Little Tokyo Service Center and the Chinatown Service Center will work with the Japanese and Chinese communities.
The Alzheimer’s Assn. of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area is working with the John XXIII Multi Service Center in San Jose to help Chinese and Vietnamese families.
