‘Divine’ Guidance

Re “Bishop Asked to Quit for Defying Church,” May 23: Have any of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s bishops or pastors who have been divorced and remarried been asked to quit? Jesus never said a word about same-sex love. He condemned divorce on several occasions. He also condemned hypocrisy--repeatedly.

Hypocrisy is picking and choosing. These ELCA leaders have chosen to pick on something that Jesus did not speak about and to ignore something that he spoke about more than once. So either the ELCA should order its bishops and ministers who have been divorced and remarried to quit or get off the backs of its gays and lesbians. Otherwise they are hypocrites--not one of Jesus’ favorite types of people!
