Homeless’ Tent City Gets 6-Month Reprieve
From Times Wire Reports
A tent city for the homeless received a six-month reprieve when a local man agreed to cover the cost of moving Portland’s leaf-composting program from the site.
The tent city, Dignity Village, sits on a 7-acre parcel near Portland International Airport. The property normally is used in the fall to compost leaves from city streets.
Leland Larson agreed to pay the city $20,000 for the composting program. His payment would give city officials the choice of either contracting out the composting to a local recycling company or using the money to make improvements at the tent city site.
Campers had been told they would have to find a new spot by today.
