From Times Wire Reports

Berlin prosecutors closed a false testimony case against Wolfgang Schaeuble, who was forced to quit as leader of the Christian Democrats because of a slush-fund scandal. The announcement appeared to boost his chances for a political comeback.

The case against Schaeuble and a former party treasurer, Brigitte Baumeister, was thrown out for lack of evidence that either had lied in court about receiving a donation from a businessman. Each claimed to have accepted $48,000 from Karlheinz Schreiber and then turned it over to the other.
