From Times Wire Reports

Gang warfare led to the destruction of hundreds of homes and three deaths after attackers shot at and set fire to hovels in a downtown slum in the Haitian capital, residents said.

Shantytown residents in the crime-ridden La Saline district of Port-au-Prince said attackers shot at them, looted their homes and tossed firebombs Friday.

Residents said the attacks were part of a turf war between gangs, with one going after two brothers who allegedly have collected protection money for years from merchants in La Saline’s markets.
